Putting security at the core of door design

October 16th 2024

Insurance company Admiral states that 60% of all burglaries take place in the evening or during the night. As the nights draw in, home security should be at the top of everyone’s list.

With October being National Home Security Month, we take a look at the security benefits and locking options of a Solidor…

Secured by Design

At 48mm thick – including a 44mm timber core and 2mm ABS skins – with a reinforced door frame, a Solidor provides a strong and secure option for homeowners.

Solidor composite doors possess BSI Kitemark accreditation BSI ISO 9001 for quality management and BSI EN 1279 for insulating glass units.

Solidor is PAS24:2016 certified, holds CE Marking and Secured by Design accreditation, and is a member of the Glass and Glazing Federation and Association of Composite Door Manufacturers.

Tested against common methods of attack

The majority (85%) of break-ins occur through lock snapping, which is why both Solidor cylinder options come with anti-lock snapping features.

Solidors are fitted with an Avantis Secured by Design locking system as standard, but homeowners can select which lock they would like to use.

The Ultion Cylinder has the ‘hidden attack lock’ which means it can detect an attack and automatically activate lockdown mode.

The ABS master lock is a 3-star British Kitemarked-approved cylinder that uses patent-protected snap secure technology to recognise when an attack is taking place and creates a barrier.

Go digital

Take your home security to a new level with the Ultion Nuki Plus smart handle and BOLT lock.

This award-winning smart lock provides you with the ability to lock and unlock your door from your phone, use a Bluetooth key fob, a wireless keypad or fingerprint recognition, and can be set to auto unlock as you arrive home. A physical key can also be used.

Automatic closure

The Winkhaus AV4 locks automatically once the door is closed, without the need to lift a handle or use a key. It has an easily enabled and disabled daytime latch, allowing flexible entry with one hand when instant access is needed.

While this option cannot be selected on the Door Designer just yet, your local Solidor installer will be able to add this item to your Solidor.

Stylish security

The range of lock options and positions available allows homeowners to choose their preferred door design without having to compromise on style or security.

For homeowners that are clearer on which design they’d like, there are two options:

  1. For a more traditional style, the heritage slam-shut lock offers the aesthetics of a rim latch but incorporates the latest high-security slam-shut technology, so the lock automatically engages as the door closes.
  2. Those wanting a more modern design with a pull handle, not an external lever handle, can upgrade to a key-operated multi-point lock.

A sweet finish

Customers can have complete control over the hardware finishes by choosing handles from Solidor’s own Sweet Hardware range.

The registered curved design of the sweet handle means it looks good and makes it more difficult for an intruder to snap and gain access.

While experienced burglars can remove some lever handles in under a second, the Sweet Hardware handle will still protect the cylinder after two minutes of attack.

Solidor supplies the two-star lever handle, which boasts the highest possible Kitemark accreditation, with the three-star encased Ultion cylinder, making the Sweet Hardware handle a five-star-rated combination – the most secure on the market.

All products in the Sweet Hardware range come with a 20-year anti-corrosion guarantee for added peace of mind.

When choosing something as significant as a front door, homeowners can rest easy knowing that they have chosen to secure their home with a Solidor.
